Police: No suspicious items found after bomb threat at SW Charlotte warehouse

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, along with the Charlotte Fire Department, investigated a bomb threat in southwest Charlotte Thursday morning after receiving two 911 calls.

After an investigation, police said they did not find anything suspicious in the facilities.

Police told Channel 9 they received the 911 calls just before 8 a.m. Thursday. They told officers there were two bombs in facilities along Pioneer Avenue, just off Interstate 485, and a third one was on the way.

Officials said the caller was not specific as to what two buildings he was talking about.

Employees at the facilities performed checks and did not find anything suspicious.

Jay Rayfield, the manager at Premier, one of three affected warehouses, sent his men in to look for things out of the ordinary.

"With everything that's happened with the pipe bombs and all that other stuff, yeah, very unnerving," he said.

Police also checked and did not find anything considered suspicious.

"All the employees swept the businesses, did not find anything that appeared to be suspicious. The businesses are not politically related. I know that's a concern going across the country now with a lot of bomb threats coming in," CMPD Lt. Brad Koch said.

The employees in the facilities were never forced to evacuate.

Officials said police and federal agencies are trying to find the person who phoned in the threat.

"The president is coming to town (Friday), so certainly that's a concern for us as a department, and we'll manage those calls when they come,” Koch said.
