SALISBURY, N.C. — Police said the gunman accused of firing shots inside a busy Salisbury restaurant last weekend, sending one person to the hospital, turned himself in Wednesday.
Jaquan Morris is charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon tied to the shooting, which happened at the Waffle House near downtown Salisbury.
Officials said the shooting started as a confrontation between two men that resulted in one of the men pulling a gun and shooting the other multiple times.
Police said the victim was transported to a hospital and was in critical but stable condition.
People who live nearby told Channel 9's Stephanie Tinoco they are concerned by the violence in Salisbury.
Earlier in June, Salisbury police and the Rowan County NAACP joined forces to prevent crimes over the summer.
Salisbury police said they are helping to train residents in deescalation so residents will be equipped to help people resolve community conflicts.
Officials said the model has been shown to reduce violence in places like Chicago and Philadelphia.
Residents said they are hopeful it is just as effective in Salisbury and find out why shots were fired at a nearby restaurant.
"I'm sure there is no really good reason to shoot somebody, but yeah, I'm interested to know what happened," resident Lisa Rose said.
