KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The Kannapolis Police Department has arrested and charged the people believed to have been involved in a man’s shooting death earlier this month.
Claude Anthony Williams, II, 29, was found dead on Dec. 7 at his home on South Little Texas Road. Police initially said they had opened a death investigation after William’s body was found around 5 p.m. that day.
The next day, police said they started investigating Williams’ death as a homicide.
Police said they obtained arrest warrants for Khalil Chapman for charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. They also took out a warrant for Jennifer Chanthaboun for first-degree murder.
On Monday, police said both Chapman and Chanthaboun turned themselves in to the Kannapolis Police Department. They are being held at the Cabarrus County jail with no bond, investigators said.
On Dec. 8, Channel 9′s Hannah Goetz spoke with a neighbor who asked not to show her face or share her name. She said she got home the afternoon of Dec. 7 and saw a woman come out of the house asking for help.
“Well actually, I was walking up the ramp to go in the house and that is when I seen her come to the door and she was hollering ‘help, help’ and she called the guy’s name,” the neighbor said.
She said the woman was calling for help to a man parked outside. Moments later, she said, first responders arrived.
“They were running to the house and the EMTs, they went in and then they were right back out in just a few minutes, taking their gloves off,” she told Goetz. “So we knew something bad had happened.”
Police aren’t releasing much at this time due to the active investigation, but the neighbor said police collected her home camera footage, which she said contains audio that sounds like gunshots.
Goetz spoke to a few other people who live nearby, but no one else knew much about the house on the corner.
No further information was released by police.
