Witness: Teenage girl fell off hood of car was run over

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teenage girl was struck by a car in east Charlotte Tuesday afternoon. She is 13 years old.

A witness told Channel 9 that the girl was riding on the hood of a car when she fell off and was run over.

She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, paramedics said. She is expected to survive. Officials said she suffered broken bones.

The accident occurred on Granby Avenue and Barncliff Road in the Independence Division.

Police said the driver was cited with reckless driving.

Chopper 9 flew over the scene where police had the area roped off with police tape.
