Police ID man who led officers on hour-long chase though Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. — An hour-long police pursuit ended Saturday evening with the suspect crashing into a ditch on Stagecoach Road near South York Road in Gastonia.

Officials said a male driver, Tuan Minh Tran, took off from his home when police arrived to serve a warrant for his arrest our of York County, South Carolina.

Gastonia police initiated the low-speed pursuit, which came to an end when police rammed and spun Tran's car sideways.

Witnesses said the chase lasted for about an hour.

"You see it on TV, but to be close up with it, it’s unreal,” Jason Bradley said.

The Highway Patrol is taking over the investigation.

Tran, 32, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

He was charged with numerous traffic violations, including driving while license revoked, fleeing and eluding arrest, hit and run, reckless driving, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and failure to comply and resisting arrest.

Police said the warrant out of York County was for damaging a woman's car in November.
