EAST LANSING, MI — A Charlotte Hornets basketball player is accused in a domestic assault.
Jeffery Taylor, 25, was arrested in Michigan by the East Lansing Police Department Thursday morning.
According to the police report Channel 9 obtained Friday, the alleged victim involved in the assault was dating Taylor.
He was arrested at an area motel where he is accused of doing hundreds of dollars in property damage.
The Hornets said it is aware of the incident and takes the matter very seriously.
Just this week NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the league would take a closer look at its own domestic violence policy after the recent arrests of players in the NFL.
The current NBA policy is for violent offenses and includes a 10-day minimum suspension.
We spoke to a veteran basketball player who didn't want his face shown on camera.
He played for years in Spain.
He told us domestic violence in the league is nothing new.
"When you're taught the rules that apply to everybody else don't apply to you, then it makes it OK," he said.
The Charlotte Hornets released a statement about Taylor's arrest.
"The Charlotte Hornets were made aware of the incident involving Jeffery Taylor early this evening. The organization is in the process of gathering more information and doing our due diligence. This is a matter that we take very seriously."
