Police charge 16-year-old student on suspicion of bringing gun to Garinger HS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said a 16-year-old student was charged for carrying a gun on the campus of Garinger High School.

Del’Marcus Walker was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a handgun by minor, altering a gun serial number and gun on an educational property.

Police said a counselor alerted the school resource officer that a student may have had a gun on campus around 1:45 p.m.

Officials said the officer searched the student and found the gun in his pocket.

Police said Walker was taken into custody without incident and the gun was seized. He was then taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
