WAXHAW, N.C. — Police said a car crashed with five juveniles inside after leading officers on a chase in Waxhaw early Friday morning.

Officers noticed a car traveling on Highway 16 without its headlights on and tried to pull it over. The 14-year-old driver refused to stop and led police on a chase on Providence Road heading into downtown Waxhaw.

Authorities said the driver went to turn onto Highway 75 and lost control of the car, crashing into Bead Merchant store.

All the juveniles in the car were taken into custody and officers learned the car had been stolen from Concord earlier in the week. Officials also found a stolen handgun in the floorboard of the car.

Police said they were all treated for any possible injuries after the crash.

The 14-year-old was served a secure custody order and taken to a juvenile facility in Concord. He is waiting for a hearing in juvenile court. The other four juveniles were released to the custody of parents and may face charges.

No other details have been released at this point.
