NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — (AP) — Authorities in South Carolina are searching for a gunman accused of shooting and wounding three people inside a shopping mall Sunday afternoon.

The North Charleston Police Department was called to the Northwoods Mall just before 1:30 p.m. on reports of a shooting in a common area, Lt. Matt Hughes said.

Officers evacuated everyone from the mall and placed the shopping center under lockdown until determining the suspect was not inside the mall and the scene was no longer an active shooter situation, officials said.

Two women and one man were wounded and taken to hospitals for treatment, Deputy Police Chief Scott Deckard said. Hughes added that two of the victims suffered minor injuries that were not life-threatening and the third was listed in serious condition. The victims were not immediately identified.

Investigators said they were working to identify and locate a person of interest captured in mall security video.

No additional information on the circumstances surrounding the shooting was immediately given.
