Police: Man shot, killed at north Charlotte home in domestic violence-related incident

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after a man was killed in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in north Charlotte.

Authorities were called to a home just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Pennsylvania Avenue, off the Brookshire Freeway. They said the call was for a domestic violence-related assault with a deadly weapon with injury call.

Police confirmed Rami Amin Neal, 36, was shot. He was taken to the hospital where he later died, officers said.

CMPD said investigators are not looking for any more suspects. They are calling the case domestic because the suspect and Neal may have been related to each other. They did not say how the shooting happened, but said they aren’t sure why Neal went to the house.

“We are not at liberty to talk about what initially drew the suspect to the residence. We’re piecing that together,” said Dave Robinson with CMPD. “We don’t believe this to be a random crime and with this being domestic-related, the parties are potentially known to each other.”

A Channel 9 crew at the scene saw several officers putting up crime scene tape around a home. Several CMPD vehicles were at the scene and officers were leaving and entering of the house.

Neighbors didn’t want to talk on camera, but said they know the family who lives in the home at the center of the investigation. They said Neal was trying to get inside when he was shot.

Police did not say if anyone was charged in the case.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak to a homicide detective. Detective Condron is the lead detective assigned to the case. Information can also be left anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or by clicking here.
