Police: 1 killed, 2 hurt in north Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a shooting in north Charlotte early Sunday morning that left one person dead and two others hurt.

It happened just before 12:30 a.m. near Merlane Drive in the Sugar Creek area.

When officers got to the area, they found two victims with gunshot wounds.

The first victim, 21-year-old Jamias Lowon Shropshire, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was transported to the hospital, but they are expected to be OK.

Shortly after, police said a third person showed up at Atrium University with a gunshot wound. They are also expected to survive.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting or if any arrests have been made.

No other information has been released.
