Man to be charged after 2 men killed, another hurt in shooting at south Charlotte apartment complex

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two people were killed and another was hurt in a shooting at a south Charlotte apartment complex early on March 15, 2021.

The shooting happened just after midnight on Kings Ridge Drive, which is off old Pineville Road and East Arrowood Road.

When officers got to the area, they found 22-year-old Isaiah Doctor-Muhammad with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person, 27-year-old Lee’Vantay Rankin, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He later died from his injuries.

Police said shortly after, a third victim showed up at the hospital. They are expected to be OK.

On Sept. 28, CMPD said they issued arrest warrants for Marteicus Taylor in connection with the murders. He was already in custody on unrelated charges in Tabor City, North Carolina. He will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder and other charges.

In November, two more suspects were charged, including Anthony Mitchell, 28, and a male juvenile.

They were placed into custody without incident.

Mitchell was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, possession of firearm by convicted felon, shooting into occupied vehicle, assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and felony conspiracy.

The juvenile was served a secure custody order for two counts of first-degree murder. The victims’ families have been notified of the arrest.

Investigators said this is the second shooting at the apartment complex in a matter of weeks.

“There was an incident that occurred here in this complex approximately two weeks ago, maybe sooner,” CMPD Maj. Brian Foley said. “That also was a shooting incident that was reported to us. That is a current ongoing investigation.”
