CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Harris Teeter in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood held a grand opening on Wednesday.
The store on Central Avenue was torn down and rebuilt, and will now feature 45,000 square feet of sales floor, a green roof system visible from an upstairs seating area and bike racks to promote a bike-friendly community.
Harris Teeter’s co-founder opened his first store on Central Avenue in 1936, and later relocated it to the current Central Avenue location. The company said reclaimed wood from the original 1704 Central Avenue location was incorporated in the ceiling planks of its market hall and seating area, as well as the produce stands.
