Playground opens in memory of drowning victim in Mooresville

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A 2-year-old boy’s life has been memorialized with a new playground in Mooresville.

Make An Impact Foundation ended the year on a high note by hosting the Brody Thompson Memorial Playground grand opening ceremony Saturday at Stumpy Green Park in Mooresville.

Thompson died in a drowning accident, and his family and community wanted to create a space where his memory could stay alive. They chose Stumpy Creek Park to build his memorial playground because of how much time he spent at the park’s baseball complex when he was younger.

In partnership with the community, Make An Impact and the Brody Thompson Foundation fundraised enough money to build a playground in Thompson’s memory.

The opening ceremony was at noon, but members of the community and Thompson’s family began arriving at 9 a.m. Saturday morning to spread mulch and set the playground up.

Saturday would have been Thompson’s 11th birthday.
