According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Randy Mysliviec of Mooresville was lined up to land his single-engine plane at Lake Norman Airport. He struck several trees before he could land and crashed into an abandoned house site.
The privately owned plane had the tail number N539MA. The flight history indicates the plane took off just past 11:50 a.m. and stopped flying twenty minutes later around 12:13 p.m.
The path shows a loop made over Lake Norman before crashing near a home on Adrian Lane.
Daniel Gregory lives at the residence with his family, told Channel 9 that he and his family could see the plane coming from their home.
“Heard my dad screaming and when I came to the window right here I just see the plane coming through the trees and hit a loud bang,” Gregory said. “It kind of happened fast and my sister immediately got on 911 and then I just ran over there and I kinda hopped in the plane to see if there’s anybody in there, found him in there.”
NCSHP said first responders attempted CPR on the way to the hospital, but the pilot passed away.
The pilot, Randy Mysliviec, was a resident of Mooresville.
The Federal Aviation Association (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident; it may be a month before we hear any new information about the crash.
