Pittenger requests ethics probe into role at former company

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Robert Pittenger (NC-09) has asked the bipartisan House Ethics Committee to conduct a full investigation into his role with his former company, Pittenger Land Investments.

“My objective is to address these issues directly and confirm that I have always acted properly and in full respect for the law and House Ethics rules,” Pittenger said.

The bipartisan House Committee on Ethics has the authority to investigate alleged violations of any applicable rules, laws or regulations governing the performance of official duties or the discharge of official responsibilities, and has the sole authority to recommend discipline of members of the House, when appropriate.

Since he was elected, Pittenger’s office has often sought guidance from Ethics Committee staff regarding his role with PLI, and other official responsibilities, to ensure that he remains in full compliance with the law, the representative’s office said in a news release.

“My request today is that the House Committee on Ethics review my conduct with respect to PLI and confirm that I have always held myself to the highest standard,” Pittenger wrote in his letter to the committee.  “I welcome the committee’s thorough review, and am prepared to provide my full cooperation, including whatever documents, information or anything else the committee needs to complete its review.”
