CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was arrested early Saturday morning for driving while impaired.

Pineville police charged Officer Nicholas Ivy-Brooks with DWI and failure to stop at a red light.

Ivy-Brooks was stopped around 2:15 a.m. on Lancaster Highway, authorities said.

Officials said Ivy-Brooks was hired in October 2018 and is working as a patrol officer in the Central Division. He is still under CMPD's one-year probationary period after they are sworn in.

CMPD will do a separate internal investigation while Pineville police handle the criminal case, which is standard procedure.

This is an ongoing investigation. Check back with wsoctv.com for more information.
