CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolinas HealthCare System-Northeast is now Atrium Health-Cabarrus.
Friday was a big day at the Concord hospital, as officials and employees gathered to unveil the facility's new name to the public. It was known as CHS-Northeast for more than a decade.
Carol Lovin, system chief of staff for Atrium Health, recalled several name changes in AH-Cabarrus' history. What began as Cabarrus County Hospital in 1937 transitioned to Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in 1951 to commemorate World War II veterans. Then, in 1997, it became Northeast Medical Center. After Carolinas HealthCare System (now Atrium) took over the hospital in 2007, it was renamed as CHS-Northeast.
