CHARLOTTE — Not that he’s counting or anything, but Adam Sperling, the executive director of the Presidents Cup golf tournament, told a roomful of business people that there are 132 days until the PGA Tour’s biennial international event tees off at Quail Hollow Club.

Sperling relocated here in 2018 for what was then expected to be a ticket and sponsorship sales run-up to the 2021 Presidents Cup. Instead, a pandemic came along and delayed the event by a year, to September 2022.
Sperling, during a speech this week to the Hood Hargett Breakfast Club and in an interview with CBJ afterwards, elaborated on what he and other organizers had already publicly proclaimed as a record-setter for advance hospitality and ticket sales.
The Presidents Cup consists of two 12-man teams made up of the top U.S. golfers taking on the best international players (except those from Europe, who play in the Ryder Cup, a similar and older event that inspired the creation of the Presidents Cup in 1994) in match-play competition.
