CHARLOTTE — A Matthews man’s car was damaged after someone shot into it while he was in traffic.
James Dressler, a native of Massachusetts, told Channel 9′s Erika Jackson he went straight to police after a person shot into his car after he honked at them.
It happened at the intersection of Conference Drive and Idlewild Road, near East Independence Boulevard.
“He wasn’t moving, so I honked my horn to let him know that the light was green,” Dressler said. “And he started staring at me in his windshield.”
The driver then started to chase Dressler.
“I just heard the pop. It was a very distinct pop. Kind of like a crackle, almost,” Dressler said. “He chased me about a mile, mile and a half down the highway. I was going between lanes and I eventually lost him.”

Once Dressler pulled over and found a bullet hole near his trunk and a dent near his passenger front door. He believes they came from gunshots. No arrests have been made.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have been investigating four similar cases of aggravated assault since Friday. Victims told officers they were in their cars when a shooter fired toward them. Victims told officers their car was stolen, but they were able to get it back.
Dressler says that he is thankful that he is able to share his story.
“I’m glad my car kind of took the hit because it was a busy highway. It could’ve went anywhere,” Dressler said.
No one reported getting hurt in any of the recent shootings. It is not clear if any recent cases could be connected. Channel 9 is working to learn more and provide updates as they come in.
