CHARLOTTE — A shooting at a south Charlotte apartment complex killed one person early Saturday morning.

CMPD went to Deep Rock Circle off East Arrowood Road in south Charlotte just before 1 a.m. Saturday for an assault call.

When officers arrived on the street in the Granite Pointe apartment complex, they found 43-year-old James Perry shot multiple times. MEDIC pronounced Perry deceased at the scene.

A homicide investigation began and Crime Scene investigators began processing the scene to figure out what happened.

Channel 9 asked CMPD if they had a suspect in custody and if this was an isolated incident.

Channel 9′s Glenn Counts spoke with a neighbor who said this shooting has caused her to fear for her safety.

Seventy-three-year-old Melinda Montgomery said her fear stems not just from this incident, but from multiple others that have occurred at the complex.

“I don’t open the door. I come to my house, and I don’t go out. I fear for my life when I get ready to come out here. The first thing I do is stick my head out here. If I don’t see anything between here and there, I come out and run down the stairs,” Montgomery explained.

Anyone with information can call 704-432-TIPS or leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
