CHARLOTTE — A family friend said a 15-year-old shot his brother at a northwest Charlotte home Thursday morning.
It happened just before 8:15 a.m. on Gum Branch Road near Mount Holly Road and Interstate 485.
MEDIC said the victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police haven’t said who that victim is or what led up to the shooting, but a family friend told Channel 9′s Dave Faherty that two brothers had gotten into an argument moments before the 15-year-old shot his older brother in the stomach.
Neighbors said they saw police responding to the home. They said the 15-year-old was taken away in handcuffs.

“It’s disgusting, to say the least. It’s sad,” neighbor Kim Tucker said. “They’re at our back door. What if that bullet had come through our house?”
It’s not clear how the teenager got access to the firearm, and police are not confirming that the shooting involves two family members.
Officers were at the home for nearly three hours while they investigated. Tucker hopes the teenager and his brother will be alright.
“It’s unreal with kids today hanging around other kids that put them in this position,” she said.
The friend of the family said he was told the older brother is in serious but stable condition.
Faherty saw police leave the home with some evidence, but it’s unclear if that included handgun used in the shooting.
