CHARLOTTE — Someone was hospitalized after being rescued from a two-alarm fire Wednesday night at a south Charlotte business complex.

Charlotte firefighters got to the scene on Carmel Road near Highway 51 and saw smoke coming from the building.

It took more than 50 firefighters about 40 minutes to control the fire in the 6300 block of Carmel Road.
The person who was hurt had life-threatening injuries and was taken to Atrium Health CMC, paramedics said.
The fire is under investigation.

Firefighters said the building was empty when the fire started and created about $50,000 worth of damage. Crews said the building will be demolished.
