CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found shot to death outside a University City area apartment complex Tuesday night.
The shooting happened just after 8:30 p.m. on Avebury Drive in University City at the Barrington Place Apartments.

Officers said when they arrived on scene, they found an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police said they performed CPR, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials later identified the victim as 22-year-old Kendric Washington.
Neighbor Abdul Hancock said the area is normally quiet.
“When we were first going out, we saw all the cops up there,” Hancock said.
This is not believed to be a random act of violence and that the shooter and victim may have known each other, CMPD said.
"I know detectives were able to determine that this wasn't random," Rob Tufano from CMPD said. "There appears to be some kind of association between the victim adn the perpetrator. What can I say? 22-year-old guy, a couple of days before Thanksgiving, just another one of our senseless kind of incidents that have occurred."
Police said no arrests have been made.
This is the 50th homicide in Charlotte this year, according to CMPD officials.
No further details have been released.
