CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies are investigating a homicide in Chesterfield County after a person was found dead of a gunshot wound inside a car Sunday morning.

The grim discovery was made around 8 a.m. by a passing motorist near the intersection of Sandy Plains Road and Highway 145, north of Chesterfield, near the state line.

Officials said the car was running and sitting in the road for nearly two hours.

"(The car) was in park, but it was right in the roadway. People were just going around it,” Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks said.

Investigators said 29-year-old Wendell Paul Price - known to family and friends as "Sasha Wall" - was slumped over the steering wheel with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Investigators said Price lived in a mobile home outside Pageland.

Brooks said deputies recovered one small-caliber bullet from the driver's door, and it appeared the shooter was in the car or just outside of it.

"Looked like whoever shot him was either sitting in the passenger seat or standing outside the car with the car door open,” Brooks said.

Deputies have not released any other details but said Price identified as a woman.

Investigators said Price likely knew the shooter but no arrests have been made.

James Robert Lee, an ex-boyfriend, told Channel 9 he last talked to Sasha on Saturday, the day before Price was found dead.

"It was just a normal conversation, she didn't say anything was wrong,” Lee said. “She didn't give any, like she didn't give any vibe that anything was wrong."

Investigators don't know why Price was on Sandy Plains Road and there were no drugs or alcohol found in the car, but Price’s cellphone was missing.

Investigators said they are interviewing family members, friends and anyone who might know anything.

They have no evidence it was a hate crime and believe it was more likely a domestic situation.
