ROCK HILL, S.C. — On Monday, people are lining up to get tested for COVID-19 after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Some of them told Channel 9′s Greg Suskin that they’re concerned they were exposed to someone who had the virus.

Since it opened a few weeks ago as a COVID-19 testing site, Winthrop Coliseum has become very busy. They test 350 to 400 people per day there, and that number is rising.

Suskin talked to some people waiting in line, and noticed one thing has changed. He said he doesn’t hear as many people saying they’re getting tested just to make sure they don’t have COVID-19. Instead, more people said that they either don’t feel well or that they have been in contact with someone who’s positive for the virus.

“I’ve been in close contact with someone who confirmed has it,” said Cal Zimmerman, who is getting tested at Winthrop. “I don’t have any symptoms, not really. I had a slight temperature yesterday and today. I just want to make sure of it. Keep my family safe.”

Due to increased demand, the site will now be open six days a week through the end of the year for free drive-up testing, with no appointment needed. The site is closed for testing on Sundays.

The Virginia-based company, Genetworx, has been doing the on-site testing there for weeks and is getting results back in 24 to 48 hours.
