CHARLOTTE — People continue to put themselves at risk by darting between cars to cross East Independence Boulevard.
For years, Channel 9 has investigated the need for more crosswalks for pedestrians.

Now, the state is planning to widen the road and take out traffic lights.
"You have to pray, because people come past the red light,” Matthews resident David Matthews said. “You gotta dodge and what not. It's real crazy.”
