Woman charged in hit-and-run days after man killed changing tire on Brookshire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Cynthia Ann Marcano, 33, has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a man dead in northwest Charlotte on Jan. 22, police said.

She has been charged with felony death by vehicle and felony hit-and-run.

Emergency crews were called around 9 a.m. on Jan. 22 to the scene on Brookshire Boulevard near Interstate 485.

The collision happened in the outbound lanes, MEDIC said.

Police said David Mercurius, 54, was hit by a car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to officers, Mercurius was in the right lane near the shoulder, changing his vehicle’s left rear tire when he was struck.

CMPD said Marcano did not stop and are calling the case a hit-and-run. She was seen exiting onto the outer loop of I-485.

Witnesses said the car was driving erratically on Brookshire Boulevard, weaving in and out of traffic, before hitting Mercurius.

Marcano was driving a dark-red 2014 to 2016 Kia Forte.
