YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Two people have died following a collision in York County Thursday night, according to the Rock Hill Police Department.

Around 10:45 p.m., an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Dodge Challenger as it turned onto Harper Gault Road.

The vehicle did not stop, but the officer decided not to pursue it after initially activating their sirens.

However, as the officer came to the intersection of Harper Gault Road and Oakdale Road, the Challenger was found wrecked in the woods.

The vehicle was traveling west on Harper Gault Road when it went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Police said the driver was trapped inside the vehicle, and the passenger was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Tyland Archer, was taken to an area hospital where he later died. The passenger, 21-year-old Justin Villanueva, died at the scene, according to police.

Police said it was later discovered that the Challenger was listed as a stolen vehicle from another jurisdiction.

No further information has been released at this time.
