HICKORY, N.C. — School’s out for summer, and while everyone is ready to have fun in the sun, Hickory’s Public Library and Public Schools are making sure no kid goes hungry by providing free meals four days a week throughout the summer.
The Summer Food Service Program is set to begin Monday, June 12, and will last through Thursday, August 10. The program is open to children and teens under the age of 18.
Breakfast will be served on Tuesdays from 9–10 a.m. at the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on 3rd Street. Lunch will be available Monday through Thursday from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Ridgeview Branch Library. Meals will not be available from July 3 through 6.
Supplies are limited, so children may only take one lunch or breakfast a day; the meals have to be eaten at the library, and no take-home meals will be given.
In addition to serving free meals, the program will also host activities for children at the Ridgeway Branch Library from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. before lunch is served.
