IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A crash involving a Humvee towing a trailer shut down all eastbound lanes on I-40 Thursday at mile marker 155 in Iredell County.

The crash happened just before noon on I-40, near Old Mocksville Road, just east of Statesville.

All lanes reopened about an hour after the wreck.

The unit is from the North Carolina National Guard 690 Brigade, which supports a battalion based out of Kinston and Farmville.

They were returning to home stations after completing their annual training in western North Carolina.

Two National Guardsmen were taken to the hospital.

"It looks like the passenger was thrown and ejected from the vehicle, and that passenger was taken to Baptist Hospital," North Carolina Highway Patrolman Leevan Tuckler said.

From Chopper 9, a military vehicle could be seen on its side.

Police have not said what caused the wreck.

"We want to support our troops, and we brought them back here to Cool Springs Station 2 to feed them and get them some water," Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department Chief Robert Lovell said.
