CHARLOTTE — East Independence Boulevard near Matthews has reopened after being shut down for hours on Sunday due to a crash involving a power pole, according to police.
The Matthews Police Department said they responded to East Independence Boulevard at Sam Newell for a crash just after 7 a.m. that involved a power pole and took down power lines.
The road was shut down in both directions for nearly 12 hours, according to police.
Just after 7 p.m., police announced that the road was back open in both directions.

E. Independence Blvd. is now back open in both directions. Please continue to use caution through the area as Duke Energy crews are still on scene making repairs on Sam Newell Rd.
