CHARLOTTE — Part of the metal roofing at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police department division flew off after a line of storms moved into the area Thursday night and Friday morning.
A Channel 9 crew arrived just before 5 a.m. Friday and saw that part of the roofing for the metal overhang had blown off, landing on some cars inside the police substation. The incident happened at the University Division on North Tryon Street.
The roof was leaning against an SUV that had caution tape around it.
A CMPD supervisor told Channel 9 nobody was hurt in the incident.

Crews were on scene working on repairs at about 6 a.m.
The University area wasn’t the only part of Charlotte that saw damage from the storms overnight. In west Charlotte, a tree fell onto Duke Energy equipment that was on Tuckaseegee Road at Yahtzee Lane, according to Duke.
Crews said they won’t be able to make repairs until the tree is removed. They plan to close Tuckaseegee Road while they work. An estimated 2,000 people were without power.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
