CHARLOTTE — We are less than a week from people voting in person for their new leaders in Charlotte, and the Political Beat team is continuing its coverage of key Charlotte City Council races.

This week, the team is talking to the remaining three at-large candidates, including James “Smuggie” Mitchell. He said he wants the city to pursue a $100 million affordable housing bond.

“I think so, we’ve still got too many families in apartments. We’ve still got families that are -- not quality housing. And so -- we got too many hotels,” he said. “So I think we could turn transform those into affordable housing.”

The Political Beat’s Joe Bruno is also talking to Dimple Ajmera and Charlene Henderson El.
