CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Students at Northwest Cabarrus High School are back in their classrooms after an evacuation Monday morning.
Around 10:30 a.m., Chopper 9 flew over the school as students sat in stadium bleachers waiting to get the all-clear to return to class.
Channel 9 reporter Hannah Goetz said parents frantically pulled up to school asking for information.
One parent who works near the school said he immediately left work fearing the worst when he heard that something was going on.
“You just never know nowadays. Probably some kid thought they were trying to get out of class and called something in. But you just never know. Until I hear something back all I can do is wait,” Travis Overcash said.

Assistant Principal Lacee Jacobs released a message to parents, explaining that the evacuation was caused after school staff discovered a note about a bomb threat.
After finding the threat, staff and students were immediately evacuated from the school as a precautionary measure.
Jacobs said law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the building and determined that it was safe for students to return shortly after 11 a.m.
Channel 9 has reached out to law enforcement but we have not heard back.
