CHARLOTTE — The Carolina Panthers made a statement in this year’s NFL draft by boldly drafting an offensive lineman with their first pick of the draft.
It was the first time they did so since 2003. With the sixth pick, the Panthers selected Charlotte native Ikem Ekwonu.

The risky move has paid off as Ekwonu has made strides throughout the season.
“Week-by-week, I have been getting more confident out there,” Ekwonu said.
