Pair charged in Steak ‘n Shake cook’s slaying will not face death penalty

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It's been five months since a stunning attack left a Steak ‘n Shake cook dead in south Charlotte.

On Thursday, the two people charged with the crime learned they will not face the death penalty.

Eddie Doh and Kiara Murphy faced a judge in court Thursday morning.

Police said Doh robbed the South Boulevard restaurant on July 9 and then shot and killed Darnell Harris, leaving families and co-workers stunned.

Doh is also accused of shooting and seriously injuring another customer, Robbie Carpenter, as well as firing at police as he tried to get away.
