MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man and woman accused of a murderous crime spree across two states that left four people dead have now been connected to a fifth killing in a third state.
Tyler Terry and Adrienne Simpson, already charged in four murders, have been named as suspects in a May 17 homicide in Memphis, Tennessee.
>> South Carolina reporter Greg Suskin is digging deeper into this developing story and will have a LIVE report on Channel 9 at 5 p.m.
According to the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, Memphis police have accused Terry and Simpson of killing a man less than 24 hours before they would eventually lead Chester County deputies on a high-speed chase.
Around 2 a.m. on May 17, Memphis police officers responded to a “man-down” call and found the victim, a man between 35-45 years old, lying unresponsive in the road, near a car that had its emergency flashers on. Police said he has been shot during what looked to be a robbery.
The victim did not survive his injuries. His name has not been released.

Later that night, Tyler and Simpson would lead Chester County deputies on a chase through two counties after being spotted in a Bojangles parking lot. Simpson was taken into custody after crashing the car, but Terry ran into the woods, triggering a week-long manhunt.
The Chester County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 9 that Memphis police will be seeking warrants against Terry and Simpson in connection to the May 17 homicide. The sheriff’s office and SLED are working with Memphis authorities on the case and officials said Memphis PD detectives were in Chester County on Friday.
It is still unclear how detectives connected the pair to the Memphis murder.
“This case is shocking,” said Chester County spokesperson Grant Suskin. “Our officers were just doing their job, the first day, checking out a suspicious vehicle, seeing if they might have needed any help, and that’s led to all this.”
On May 15, the pair allegedly killed two people in two separate crimes, while wounding another, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Both are currently in the Chester County Detention Center charged with murder in the death of Simpson’s husband, Eugene Simpson, as well as multiple counts of attempted murder for shooting at deputies, shooting at a house and a shooting at the Chester Taco Bell.
Eugene Simpson was reported missing on May 2 and the two allegedly killed Thomas Hardin in York that same day as well.
