Pair accused in deadly Steak 'n Shake robbery could face death penalty

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Seven weeks have passed since an armed robbery inside a Charlotte Steak ‘n Shake restaurant turned deadly.

Darnell Harris, a cook who stepped in to protect others, was shot and killed and a customer was wounded.

The two people accused in the crime, Eddie Doh and Kiara Murphy, will return to court on Thursday and prosecutors could announce whether they'll seek the death penalty in this case.

Doh and Murphy are facing murder charges for what happened at the South Boulevard restaurant on July 9.

Police said Doh stormed into the Steak ‘n Shake to rob the business but ended up killing Harris.

Witnesses said Harris was a hero and that he stepped in front of the gun to protect his co-worker.

During the commotion, Doh also injured customer Robbie Carpenter before officials said he shot at officers while trying to get away.

Murphy was with Doh that day, according to police. She is also facing a murder charge.
