PAGELAND, S.C. — Pageland residents are demanding answers after months of questions about the town's suspended police chief, Larry Brown, who has been off the job for months while the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigates the department.

The town has had an interim police chief for nearly four months as SLED investigates allegations against Brown.

The Town Council talked about the case Tuesday night and Brown met with council members for some time.
The council didn't adjourn until 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Residents Randolph Melton and Harold Burnell attended the six-hour meeting and wished the council would have told the public something.

Burnell called the case against Brown a witch hunt.

"Right now we can't question anything because they won't release any information," Burnell said.

Interim Police Chief Randall Lear said he has not been notified about a change in his job status.

Brown did not return phone calls and messages Wednesday seeking comment.

Channel 9 spoke to Solicitor Will Rogers Wednesday, who said he does have the SLED file on Brown but couldn't comment.

The Pageland Town Council meets again Monday.
