CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Majority ownership of the Charlotte Independence soccer club might be changing hands with former steel executive and trade adviser Dan DiMicco getting out of the game, just a few years after taking the position.

The USL Championship league announced the pending sale of stakes in the Independence — and DiMicco’s exit — in a prepared statement.
Such a move would come amid controversy over DiMicco’s remarks on social media on topics ranging from the Black Lives Matter movement to conspiracy theories about the Covid-19 pandemic.
