Owners of South End’s newest restaurant on getting ready for debut

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This South End restaurant hopes the third time is the charm. Vana is gearing up for a mid-July opening — if Covid-19 doesn’t derail those plans again.

The owners of Vana have invested over $500,000 into that 72-seat restaurant, located at 1440 S. Tryon St.

“We’re at the point where we can’t stop moving forward,” says Jayson Whiteside.

He and Mike Noll — also executive chef — are behind that restaurant and sister concept Bardo in South End.

“There’s anxiety for sure to get the doors open, but also to do our part to do it cautiously,” Noll says.

Vana initially planned to open last August but ran into financial issues. Then Covid-19 delayed its planned March opening, when restaurants were forced to shutter their dining rooms. Hiring was halted and the waiting began.
