BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Part of Highway 64 in Burke County is closed Monday morning after a tractor-trailer overturned and went off the road.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a Case Farms truck was carrying a few hundred live chickens on US 64 between Conley and Fisher Davis Road near Morganton before it turned over around 7:30 a.m.
A 2010 Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling east on US 64 and ran off the road to the right, struck a guardrail and overturned, according to officials.
A 30-year-old driver from Lenior was wearing a seatbelt and did not suffering any injuries. He was charged with a lane control violation. Another rear-end collision happened as traffic was stopped for the original crash.
As of 10 a.m., Highway 64 part of Highway 64 is still closed.
Channel 9′s Dave Faherty learned at the scene that an off duty sheriff deputy’s car was struck when he stopped to direct traffic.
