Osprey eggs are ready to hatch in Kings Mountain and you can watch it happen

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Birdwatchers are keeping an eye on an Osprey nest perched on a platform high above Moss Lake in Kings Mountain.

Three Osprey eggs started to hatch Tuesday and will continue over the next few days.

City officials said they built the nesting platform as a safe place for birds to lay eggs after a pair of Osprey built a nest near electrical lines a few years ago.

A camera was placed above the platform.

“Watching the Osprey nest live webcam is a great way for students who are being home-schooled to learn about Osprey and birds of prey,” Kings Mountain Mayor Scott Neisler said.

Ospreys mate for life and are devoted parents. This pair of nesting Ospreys has been seen taking turns incubating the eggs and bringing fish to each other to eat.

Once they hatch, the young Osprey are expected to take their first flight in 8 to 10 weeks.
