Organization asks public to help nesting sea turtles after SC beaches reopen

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Sea turtle nesting season is not too far away and a nonprofit organization wants people to be aware of nesting spots before beaches open back up, WCIV reports.

Loggerhead sea turtle nesting season in South Carolina is usually from May through October, with hatchlings being spotted from July through October.

The organization, Wounded Nature - Working Veterans, said since the beaches have been closed for so long, debris has started to pile in areas along the beaches and coastlines.

They said once beaches do reopen, they want people to be on the lookout for nesting spots and help pick up debris in the areas.

According to the organization, newly hatched sea turtles can get trapped inside cups, tires and other things in their path, since they’re not used to making it out to the ocean.
