CHARLOTTE — Operation Bunny Hop is in full swing at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Animal Care and Control.
There are 30 rabbits in need of new homes after being surrendered Wednesday. Since then, 28 have found homes, officials said.
The shelter said a woman dropped off 30 rabbits because she was being displaced from her home. However, CMPD Animal Care and Control is already full.

Workers set up temporary housing for the rabbits until they find new homes.
“We really don’t have room to put them in individual cages,” said Melissa Knicely, a spokesperson with CMPD Animal Care and Control. “Luckily, we have the barn. We can keep them here for now. As we can get them adopted, we can move them back into the cages inside.”
The remaining rabbits are ready to be adopted immediately. The animal shelter already had six rabbits in its care before the 30 were dropped off.

They appear healthy, and social and were well taken care of, shelter officials said.
The shelter said that adoption fees will be waived through Sept. 30.
The rabbits will be spayed or neutered at Snip Well Spay Neuter & Wellness Clinic.
“While it’s wonderful to see all of these rabbits going into new homes, we do want to stress the importance of spaying and neutering, especially when it comes to rabbits and they reproduce quickly,” Knicely said.
