CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police reopened a south Charlotte road that was closed for more than six hours after a deadly wreck.
One of the drivers in the accident faces a charge of death by motor vehicle.
The crash happened on Rea Road at Colony Road around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police said Barry Davis has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle after he crossed a double yellow line with his SUV and clipped a dump truck.
That caused the driver of the dump truck, who was heading north, to cross into the southbound lane and collide with a Jaguar driven by Edward Miller, police said.
Miller was killed in the accident, police said. No one else was injured in the accident, police said.
Neighbors said they were surprised to see an accident this serious considering how congested the road gets around rush hour.
"There's a lot of traffic, bumper to bumper. (I) don't see how someone could have been going fast enough for something serious to occur," said neighbor Ben Franklin.
Davis is due in court Friday at 1 p.m.
