DALLAS, N.C. — Gastonia Police say a 24-year-old man from Georgia was allegedly shot by his girlfriend near a Food Lion Sunday night.
Police said first responders were called to the Food Lion parking lot around 9:10 p.m. for a reported shooting.
Investigators learned that Jaterra Deborah Malisa Grant, 25, and her boyfriend were driving in their car when they stopped in the parking lot and got into “a dispute.” During the dispute, Grant allegedly got out of the car and fired “multiple shots from a handgun” into the car, hitting her boyfriend once.
The victim drove himself to a nearby gas station and called police. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Grant was found in a nearby store and was taken into custody, police said. She still had the handgun that was believed to be used in the shooting.
Grant is being charged with first-degree attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill or seriously injure, and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
