CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said an 18-year-old man died after someone shot into several apartments and cars in east Charlotte Sunday.
Police said it happened at the Vista Villa apartment complex on Barrington Drive just after 9:30 p.m.
According to CMPD, Roy Guevara was shot and taken to a hospital, where he died.
There was damage to vehicles and the building.
A family told Channel 9 bullets hit their van and truck.
“It took quite a beating,” Victor Gonzalez said. “Cars are expensive.”
Gonzalez said he heard dozens of gunshots Sunday night and he and his family ducked for cover.
“We were trying to be as quiet as possible so we wouldn’t draw any attention to ourselves,” Gonzalez said.
Another neighbor, who does not want to be named, told Channel 9 his friend was the one who died in the shooting.
“At the end of the day, you took another man’s life. And for what?” the man said.
Detectives had to expand their crime scene to more cars and apartments overnight because there was so much evidence to go through. Police even towed a car that was littered with bullet holes away from the scene.
The victim’s friend is now calling for change.
“I feel like we should be doing better as a community, and as a city,” he said. “This is stupid. This is pointless.”
Police have not named a suspect in the case.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
