One person dead in van crash near Lancaster, troopers say

LANCASTER, S.C. — One person died when a van drove off the highway south of Lancaster on Tuesday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the 2001 Dodge utility van was driving north on S.C. 200 near Bethel Road after 6 a.m. when it went off the right side of the road into an embankment and hit a tree.

The driver of the van was taken by helicopter to the hospital and a passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Highway patrol has not released a name on the victim.

Troopers said the accident remains under investigation.
